Many residents of 8 counties took a day off
Today residents of 8 countries of the world followed the advice of the European Trade Union Confederation and took a day off - Novosti-Gruzia.
The reason was a many-thousand pan-European manifestation against measures of strict economy. In Brussels alone it can involve 100 000 people.
Protesters are also gathering in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, France, Latvia, Ireland. The strict economy policy is conducted by many governments of the EU countries to overcome consequences of global financial crisis. It leads to unemployment growth and negatively affects economic growth. The aim of the trade unions is to make governments introduce tax on financial operations and renounce plans to freeze salaries.
Confederation representatives intend to negotiate with Jose Manuel Barroso, the European Commissioner chairman, as well as with Yves Leterme, the PM of Belgium, the current president country of the EU.
Demonstrations have caused traffic complications in 8 countries, and that's why participants asked residents to take care about their safety and take a day off.
