Saakashvili revealed a family secret of Foreign Minister
In his interview to Gordon's Boulevard [Ukrainian media] Mikheil Saakashvili, the President of Georgia, presented his view on one of the episodes of Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze's life.
According to the head of state, in 1988 Vashadze, these times a young and promising diplomat, was banished from Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs "because at the party assembly he stood up and told Gorbachev everything he thought about the future of the Soviet Union".
Saakashvili is also convinced it was a miracle Vashadze wasn't imprisoned. In his view, the diplomat's wife, Nino Ananishvili [in future - People's Actress of Georgia and Russia] worked this miracle. "He wasn't allowed abroad with the wife, so, he had enough trouble," said Saakashvili. In his perception the figure of an influential spouse was an important political and diplomatic factor.
