Georgia can attack South Ossetia – SO Minister of Defense
Valeriy Yakhnovets, the Minister of Defense of South Ossetia, can't rule out a repetition of the military aggression of the Georgian side against South Ossetia - Interfax.
"We can't rule out Georgia's attacking South Ossetia, even considering the serious covering force of the Russian border guards. In 2008 everyone thought peacemaker wouldn't be fired at and killed, but we witnessed the opposite. That's why defensive measures and reinforcement of our borders must be held in any case," Yakhnovets said.
He added that attempt of Saakashvili regime to return South Ossetia under sovereignty of Georgia by force in 2008 failed because of Georgian army's American trainers to Ossetian people. "They didn't consider the main - the mentality and national spirit of Ossetian people, its 20-year experience of struggle for freedom of its state, firm confidence that own land must be defended under any circumstances. Decision of Ossetian militia to combat in small groups was also crucial. The most difficult in this military operation was getting Georgian tanks from the city. And our militia did this task. If the Ossetian people didn't struggle for its freedom so furiously, Russia wouldn't be able to do what we have now."
Yakhnovets highlighted that it's Interior Ministry of South Ossetia in the first line that must confront continuing provocations of the Georgian side. "Such facts are mostly of criminal character. Yet the Ministry of Defense isn't going to pass responsibility to other agencies. In any case, in such issues coordination of actions of all agencies is necessary. It is, surely, established, but needs improvement," the minister said.
