Saakashvili tries to whitewash himself - expert
Yury Bateyev, a well-known South Ossetian expert, claimed that Mikheil Saakashvili's offers to start a dialog with Russia is an attempt to whitewash himself in the eyes of the world community.
"Saakashvili lied, lies, and will continue to lie. He simply needs to create an image of a peacemaker to his Western sponsors to receive another tip," Beteyev said - Osinform.
The expert believes the speeches were provoked by recent accusations of Georgian government's support for terrorists, uttered by Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya. Beteyev doubts Saakashvili would succeed as "even European politicians overtly admit Saakashvili an aggressor."
"I must mention that in his interview to French journalists Saakashvili said only 6 000 people are residing in South Ossetia now. Possibly, by lowering the real figures by several times, the Georgian president simply voiced own desires he tried to fulfill in the course of Clear Field operation. He simply confirmed he doesn't want to see Ossetians in indigenous Ossetian land," Beteyev said.
Previously Mikheil Saakahvili gave an interview to TV5 Monde channel, in which again called Russia "occupant and invader", but added that having a big neighbour who is your hostile, is dangerous, and stated the necessity to support dialog with this neighbour.
