The Chairman of the Russian General Prosecutor' Office's Investigatory Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, at today's press conference stated that the Committee studies the possibility to institute legal proceedings of criminal cases, described by six articles of Russian criminal code, RIA-Novosti informs.gt-en-newsitem-inside
He reminded that now criminal cases only on two articles are being investigated: murder of 2 or more persons performed by dangerous method or out of racial or national animosity (article 105) and genocide (article 357).
According to Bastrykin, there is a prospective to institute proceedings of the cases: planning, preparation, outbreak and prosecution of aggressive war (article 353), use of prohibited weapons (356 ), use of mercenaries (359), assault on persons or entities protected by international law (360).
According to the Chairman of the Committee, investigation of the events of August 2008 prolonged to April 2009, than the materials will be passed to Russian Foreign Ministry. The Committee suggests as possible the establishment of special judicial body for trial of the persons guilty of these events. Bastrykin believes that those, who are guilty of Russian peacemakers' and South Ossetians'- Russian citizens' deaths, must be brought to responsibility, regardless of their posts.
According to the data the Committee possesses, Georgian servicemen used weapons prohibited by international conventions; jeered at corpses of Russian servicemen.
Moreover, the Committee found out that Georgia used modern materiel, delivered from "friendly countries", the Chairman mentioned.
According to the Committee data, the total contingent of Georgian troops counted 17 thousand servicemen, including 2 thousand reservists. Their army used 100 tanks, 30 multiple launch rocket systems Grad, 9 Su-27 jets.
According to Bastrykin, in the result of the events of August, 48 Russian servicemen were killed, including 10 peacemakers, 2 were lost, and 157 were wounded.
The Chairman of the Russian General Prosecutor' Office's Investigatory Committee reported the data of people suffered of Georgian aggression: they count 5000 people. 162 killed republican civilians were recognized, 655 houses destroyed totally, over 2000 - partially.
According to Bastrykin, 729 witnesses were interrogated in the course of the investigation.
