Kobalia: Poti port is sold
The sale of Poti port was officially confirmed today by Minister of Georgian Economy Vera Kobalia. Her statement is cited by Business Georgia. The new owner of the port - APM Terminals - will have to invest 65 million dollars in the port and provide workplaces to the local population, the minister underlined. According to Kobalia, APM Terminals already owns 44 ports in 33 world countries.
APM Terminlas is an affiliate of Maersk Danish conglomerate and one of the major port operators in the world.
Until recently, Poti port had belonged to Arabian RAKIA. The intention to quit managing the port was declared by the company last year. According to the statements of the company representatives, the port was not a strategically meaningful asset.
