Wine laboratory to be sold
Georgian government has reported its plans on selling Wine Laboratory. As Business Georgia informs with reference to the government's statement, the reason for the decision is that the state and private laboratories are in unequal competitive conditions. Wine producers prefer turning to Samtrest laboratory for testing.
On December 26, 2003, a special foundation was established for quality control, one of which founders is Samtrest, and in April 2006 Samtrest set up a special wine laboratory with the help of the German colleagues. The establishment of the laboratory allowed controlling the quality of wine and other alcohol drinks through modern technologies, which significantly increased the quality of the Georgian wine.
The officials believe that the participation of Samtrest, which is the founder of Wine Laboratory LLC, in the foundation prevents it from conducting full and impartial state policy in the field.
