TIG: Georgia’s media market lacks journalist competition

TIG: Georgia’s media market lacks journalist competition. 15631.jpegTransparency International Georgia (TIG) organization called on the National Regulating Commission for Communications of Georgia to give the priority of licenses issuance to those TV channels that produce news and educational programs. TIG experts fear that the National Commission for Communications may use the recent results of the public opinion poll on media market problems in Georgia for denying licenses to the media specializing in news, political debates, investigations and educational programs.

"We hope the Board of the Regulating Commission will consider the reality of the Georgian TV market while setting licensing priorities, for the television offers plenty of entertainment programs but lacks journalist competition", goes TIG's statement.
