Bakradze Remembered about Georgian Women. 16699.jpegThe Chairman of the country's Parliament David Bakradze remembered about the rights of Georgian women. It is important for the Georgian Parliament to enact all laws defending women's rights. According to the GHN, today the Georgian Parliament Speaker David Bakradze made this statement before his meeting dedicated to gender issues.

"Family violence is a high priority and a topical subject for the part of the society known as the democratic communty. Therefore, it is natural that Georgia which aspires to the European Union pays attention to this issue", stressed Bakradze.

In his words, the Parliament will not discuss only the problems of Georgian women, but the general situation in the region.

Let us remind you that this March the results of a survey conducted in Georgia in 2010 were published. According to these results, every third woman in Georgia is a victim of violence. Children also become victims of violence quite often. Over 50% of acts of violence are performed by their fathers, 46% their mothers, 35% their teachers. Therefore, 58% of the children who participated in the survey do not feel protected outside, 48% at home.

According to the survey results, 8% of the children are victims of incest, 4% of sexual violence committed by their peers and 20% of sexual violence committed by adults. According to the expert data, every fourth case of police alarm in Georgia is caused exactly by family violence.
