Russian Citizen Demands Compensation from Georgian Authorities
A resident of the Chelyabinsk Region Ruben Oganesyan who had served a term of a year and a half in Georgia for illegal border crossing is demanding a compensation of 50.000 Euro from the Georgian authorities, informs the nakanune.ru Web site.
He was arrested in Georgia in 2009, when he went to Armenia to see his parents from the South Ossetian territory.
Oganesyan is asking the Russian authorities that recognized South Ossetia in 2008 to help him. In Oganesyan's words, thousands of our compatriots are serving a sentence in Georgian prisons.
"People with Russian passports serve terms of three-five years, nobody has been released but me yet. It often happens like this: they go there for their own business, they may have a Georgian father and a Russian mother, or vice versa, and they imprison anybody they manage to capture. I don't know if they earn money in this way or whatever", says Ruben Oganesyan.
