Rustavi 2 and Imedi Fined
Two largest Georgian TV companies, Rustavi 2 and Imeli, were fined by the National Committee for Communications Regulation. According to the Business Georgia, at the decision of the committee members both TV companies must pay a fine of 2.500 Lari each for the violation of the advertising law. This decision was made on the basis of a complaint of the journalist research studio "Monitor that was submitted to the regulation committee on 7 March.
The complain consists in the fact that, in the opinion of the "Monitor" studio, the above-indicated TV companies regularly breach the broadcasting law, exceeding the time limit set for the commercial inserts.
According to the then existing law, the "advertising pause" in the newsreel-type programs is acceptable only if the duration of the program exceeds 30 minutes. At the same time, the duration of the newsreel itself cannot exceed 120 seconds.
At the moment the law "On Broadcasting" has been amended. Since this April the commercial pause duration has been increased from 15% to 20% of the total time.
The "Monitor" studio complained about "Rustavi 2" and "Imedi" last October, too. And won the case, too.
