Burjanadze: The authorities do not arrest the leaders of the opposition, because they are afraid to cause a stir
According to the leader of the "Democratic Movement" Nino Burjanadze, the official Georgian authorities did not arrest the leaders of the "National Assembly" for the reason that they fear a scandal, which can appear all over the world as a result of this step. As the "GHN" reports, Burjanadze made this statement before the meeting of advisory committee of the "National Assembly". She added that if at least 1 percent of what authorities say is the truth, then she should be arrested.
"All of our supporters are ready to go to the police. We do not hide from anyone. There is no legal basis for detaining those people who are detained by the authorities now, or those who is declared a wanted list" - said Burjanadze.
She also underlined that the law enforcement officials appeared wrong when they offered to private individuals, in particular, Badri Bitsadze, make a pledge.
"Nothing like this ever happened in Georgia. The pledge must be offered by the side which is under suspicion, and not by the court. This fact indicates that we are dealing with a special case because it was not offered to those who has suffered from illegal violence. This is a political persecution of those who support the "National Assembly" and fight for justice" - said Burjanadze.
