Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia John Bass said that the recent meeting of the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili and the U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden in Rome was "productive". "Mikhail Saakashvili and Joe Biden had a very productive meeting. A number of issues and the challenges faced by Georgia were considered" - said in an interview with Georgian media Bass. "The U.S. Vice President expressed a hope that the next parliamentary elections will be based on democratic principles" - he added.
In turn, as the Georgian presidential administration informed, "Joseph Biden thanked Saakashvili for a new significant contribution to the ISAF in Afghanistan. During the meeting the sides highlighted the security issues. The conversation also touched the territories "occupied by Russia" and the "threat that comes from these territories".
"Joe Biden said that the United States support the negotiations, conducted in connection with this matter through the mediation of Switzerland. According to him, Russia has to settle this matter in coordination with Georgia. During the meeting, Vice-President Joe Biden expressed his full approval of the policies and reforms of Georgia" - was noted in the press-service.
