Burjanadze: I am pro-Georgian politician
Georgian opposition leader Nino Burjanadze today during her visit to Kiev made a statement that she is not a pro-Russian politician. According to the "Georgia-News", Burjanadze made this statement at a press conference to the Ukrainian journalists. Nevertheless, she underlined the need to resolve the Georgian-Russian relations.
"I am pro-Georgian politician who thinks that for Georgia it is fundamentally important to have a strategic and very close cooperation and relations with western countries, to integrate seriously into Western structures, but for Georgia it is also necessary and vital important to have normal relations with Russia" - said Burjanadze .
"I believe that for Georgia more than for any other country in the world , it is important to try to normalize relations with Russia because we are neighboring states, and, at least, we need to ensure that a direct military confrontation will not repeat" - added Burjanadze.
"I'll tell you one thing - I'll come to Moscow as many times as I deem fit, as well as in any other capital city in the world" - said the further ex-speaker, responding to a question from reporters about why she visits Moscow so frequently.
She noted that while the anti-Russian rhetoric of Mihail Saakashvili, it was he who appeared able make Russia to return number of important positions to Georgia, and the membership in NATO has been postponed during his presidential term.
"Georgia will not become a member of NATO until the Russian tanks are within 20 minutes drive to the center of Tbilisi, and until the conflict is resolved" - said a Georgian politician.
