Burjanadze: Russian special forces could ensure the overthrow of Saakashvili
One of the leaders of the Georgian opposition Nino Burjanadze said that Russia was not involved in organizing the actions of protests of opposition in the republic.
According to the Rosbalt, Burjanadze underlined that the accusation of authorities of the country that she supports a secret relationship with Russia to overthrow Saakashvili are unfounded. "There was no conspiracy with Russia or Russian special forces, otherwise the situation would be different. If we were preparing a coup d'etat, if we were in cahoots with Russia, if we had 4,000 armed men, I assure you, today Saakashvili would not have been in power" - she added.
Recall, the night of May 26, leaders of the oppositional "National Assembly" headed by Nino Burjanadze refused to finish the action of protest, which, according to the authorities of Tbilisi, had been authorized untill 00:00 pm on May 26. After this time, Georgian special forces dispersed the demonstration, using water cannons and tear gas. According to preliminary reports, two people were killed during the crackdown and about 40 people were injured and taken to the hospital.
Georgian Interior Ministry has charged 90 protesters. Location of some leading persons of oppositional "National Assembly" is still unknown.
Note that the official authorities of Georgia have repeatedly stated that the part of the local opposition is actively supported by the Russian leadership.
