Georgian media have expressed support for holding "Palitra Media"
A number of Georgian media announced that it has expressed support for the management of the holding company "Palitra Media", which has undergone a sudden check of local tax services.
According to the "PirWeli, several influential Georgian news agency released a statement in which it is hoped that the visit of tax services in the office of the holding is not associated with political motives and professional activities of media company.
In particular, in the statement of the agency "PirWeli" it was noted that the society must be confident that this checking "has a really planned nature, that its purpose is only tax audit, and it has nothing common with pressure on free media".
Earlier, it was reported that experts of Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia started an exceptional checking in the structures of media holding "Palitra Media". There have already been sealed book publishing, as well as warehouses with typographical and printing materials.
The "Palitra Media" combines a number of media such as radio "Palitra", Internet television "Palitra-TV" and the news agency "InterPressNews". In addition, it includes about 20 newspapers and magazines. The auditors are checking only six members of the media holding.
According to experts of Revenue Service, the current checking does not interfere with current activities of the media holding. They also claim that the warehouses of the company are not sealed, and the conducting of inventory does not require prior notification.
