Expert: nobody is interested by European Parliament Decision on Georgia
Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Vladimir Zharikhin believes that the a resolution adopted by the European Parliament and calling on Russia to withdraw troops from "occupied territories of Georgia" will not have serious consequences.
According to VZGLYAD, Zharikhin underlined that Moscow has fully complied with the conditions of the Medvedev-Sarkozy plan, and hence the claims of the European parliamentarians are totally groundless. "Russia has not invaded Georgian territory. Russian troops in Abkhazia and South Ossetia are there with the consent of these countries" - added Zharikhin.
The expert also noted that the European Parliament does not enjoy significant authority. "Only the Russian and Georgian medias are monitoring the actions of the European Parliament . In Europe, the organization has no authority" - said the deputy director of the Institute of CIS countries.
Recall, that the Medvedev-Sarkozy agreement, signed in August 2008, completed "a five-day war" in South Ossetia. In this case, the Georgian side claims that Moscow has not fully complied with its terms. In particular, according to Tbilisi, the item for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country is not completed.
