According to the minister of regional development and infrastructure of Georgia Ramaz Nikolaishvili, the traffic in the Rikotskiy pass, connecting the western and eastern parts of Georgia, will be fully restored within a few days. As the "Georgia-News" reported, this information the Minister announced in an interview with TV channel "Imedi".
"According to weather forecasters and geologists in one hour in the region there has fallen the amount of precipitation, which was to fall within a month, which brought down all the existing communication not only because of the flood. Streams of water went from the mountain slopes" - the Minister said.
During the night there were laid waste pipes, through which it was possible to change the direction of flow, he added. "It gave us the opportunity to save the road. The full recovery of traffic will be possible in a few days, when we will blow up blocked sections of the road and clean it up" - said Nikolaishvili. He stressed that a unilateral traffic in the pass has already been restored.
Recall, one of the main highways of the country was blocked overnight with landslides and mudslides descended from the mountain, caused by heavy rain. Mtishevi river has overflown. In the area of the Rikotskogo tunnel spill water washed away one of the roadside restaurants, and four people died. Two more are missing.
