Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia: Georgia forced Vanuatu to withdraw from Sukhum
Abkhazian Foreign Minister Maxim Gvindzhia believes that Georgia has forced the new government of Vanuatu to refuse to recognize the independence of the republic.
According to VZGLYAD, Gvindzhia is sure that the transitional government of the island state which has declared the withdrawal of recognition of the sovereignty of Abkhazia came under the influence of Tbilisi and its Western partners. "Statements of the transitional Prime Minister, Mr Natapov can mean one thing: it is obvious he is not delving into the issue and being under pressure of certain forces has made such a statement. "For certain forces", I mean Georgia. Representatives of the Foreign Ministry of this country through their western counterparts are putting pressure on politicians to Vanuatu" - said Gvindzhia.
He also believes that the independence of Abkhazia was declared by "legitimate government of Vanuatu", led by Sato Kilmany. "The legitimacy of his authority was recognized by the Constitutional Court of Vanuatu on May 13, 2011. We have passed all the procedures" - said Gvindzhia.
Previously Director of the Department of Asian and African countries, Australia and Oceania of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Zurab Aleksidze said that the new government of Vanuatu has withdrawn recognition of the independence of Abkhazia.
"The new government of Vanuatu on June 17 issued a statement saying that, current government of Vanuatu withdraws and cancels the decision by the previous government's decision to recognize Abkhazia's independence" - said Aleksidze.
According to him, "this fact confirms the position of government of Vanuatu, who supports the territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders, and that the previous government decision was a mistake and misunderstanding".
Authorities in Vanuatu have been replaced the day before, on the basis of the Constitutional Court, ruling this country.
Recall, the information that Vanuatu has recognized Abkhazia's independence was announced May 31 by the head of the Abkhazian foreign minister Maxime Gvindzhia.
