American Congressman criticizes Russian policy in Caucasus
According to the U.S. Congressman David Dreier, the actions of Russia in the Caucasus has brought region to a standstill. As the "GHN" reported, expert criticizes Moscow's policies after the 2008 war, emphasizing the facts of carrying out "attacks" on Georgian territory.
"The hostilities of Russia have brought the region to a standstill. It has violated international norms and obligations. The situation seems to calm down, but it is a dangerous illusion, because Russia can carry out a potentially dangerous activity. After 2008, there were 12 attempts to implement the "terrorist attacks" in Georgia, which are associated with Russia" - said the congressman.
The Obama administration tried to restart the relationship with Russia, which had a number of pragmatic and strategic purposes, he added.
"Russia is one of the international players and a permanent member of the UN. We must have a constructive relationship with it, but it does not mean that we should turn a blind eye to its influence in post-Soviet space" - concluded the representative of the U.S. Congress.
