Kokoity: the future president of South Ossetia will continue the policy of friendship with Russia
South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity said that the future head of South Ossetia will continue to rate the current government.
According to news agency "Osinform", Kokoity said that Tskhinval after the presidential elections, scheduled for the end of the year, would take Russia as its main partner. "The course, taken by the government of South Ossetia, will continue. Russia was and is our main strategic partner. Russia is a country which we owe the fact that people are able to live on their land. We must work to strengthen our statehood and our international credibility" - said the president of South Ossetia during a meeting with representatives of local media.
Earlier, acting president of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity, has promised that he would not run for office for the next election.
"I will keep all the promises I gave in 2001" - he said.
The president added that he doesn't intend to change the Constitution "by itself", so as to obtain the right to go for a third presidential term.
"Among the political elite of South Ossetia there is young and talented people who can lead the republic for a future" - said Kokoity.
Eduard Kokoity was first elected president of South Ossetia in 2001. Subsequently, in 2006 he won re-election to that post.
