The Russian military base remains in Armenia until 2044
Russian president Dmitry Medvedev signed today the law on ratification of protocol on extending the treaty of 1995 about Russian military base in Armenia. "GHN" reported about this referring to the official website of the Russian President.
The Protocol was signed in Yerevan in August 2010. Duration of the contract amounted 25 years old. The protocol extends its operation for 49 years - since 1995. The action of this contract will be renewed automatically for five-year periods, unless either side notifies the other side in writing of intention to terminate this contract.
The 102nd Russian military base was deployed in Gyumri in northern Armenia in 1995. It carries combat duty in framework of the Joint CIS Air Defense System.
The number of personnel of the base is about 5000 people.
