Japan does not want to call Georgia in a new way
Japan expressed its negative attitude towards the idea of renaming Sakartvelo to "Georgia". According to the "GHN", the position of Japan was expressed by representatives of Department on Caucasus and Central Asia of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
Thus, so far only South Korea accepted the request of Tbilisi and decided to use the word "Georgia".
Before that, Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze argued that the word "Georgia" is borrowed from the Russian language, and the current authorities do not like it.
"Georgia should be called Sakartvelo, or "Georgia". They call us this way in most of contries. Unfortunately, the word "Georgia" was confirmed in several countries in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in Asia, but we will gradually correct this situation" - said Vashadze.
