Breakthrough of militants from the Pankisi Gorge to the Russian Federation was not confirmed
Georgian Foreign Ministry denied media reports that up to 70 militants penetrated to Russia from Georgia through the Pankisi Gorge. According to the "Georgia-News", Georgian Foreign Ministry called it a disinformation.
"This kind of disinformation of the Russian media, citing unnamed sources in the FSB was spread once before, but this information has nothing common with the reality" - said Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze in an interview. She believes that this "disinformation" coincided with the process of concentration of Russian troops near the Ingushetian part of the Georgian-Russian border.
Today Russian media has also denied reports about militants. They cite the press service of the Southern Regional Border department of FSB, which stated that "the information spread by some media about the alleged breakthrough of militants from the Pankisi Gorge to the Russian Federation was not confirmed".
