The Georgian parliament has given the churches status of legal entity
The night before the Georgian parliament adopted amendments to the Civil Code of the country at an accelerated rate in the last and final reading. As reported by "Trend", the adopted amendments were to give status of legal entity of public rights to Catholics, Baptists, and the Armenian Apostolic Church, also to the Muslim and Jewish communities.
During the passage of the bill 70 deputies unanimously voted "for" amendment.
Earlier, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II appealed to MPs to suspend consideration of the assignment of the status of legal entity to several religious organizations in Georgia. However, consultation with the Patriarchate led to nothing, and the bill was approved in the original version.
