The "Project Saloglu" in Azerbaijan is being completed
As the Deputy General Secretary of NATO on new security challenges ambassador Gabor Iklodi pointed out today during a speech in Baku, Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of NATO and relations between the Alliance and the country will be strengthened further. As reported by "Trend", Iklodi said this at an event dedicated to the completion of "Project Saloglu" on explosive ordnance disposal. This project appeared one of the largest conversion projects supported by the NATO.
According to Iklodi, "Project Saloglu" was carried out by Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action on a professional manner.
The expert added that in the near future they plan to launch another such project on mine clearance in the area of Akstafa in Azerbaijan.
Recall, that in time "Saloglu" was the largest arsenal of the Soviet Army in the South Caucasus. In August 1991, an explosion occurred at the arsenal and resulted of which about 138 warehouses were destroyed. In December 2005, "Project Saloglu" was launched and more than 640 thousands of unexploded munitions were found and defused.
