Russia and Georgia were urged to investigate human rights violations in 2008
Today Georgian Coalition of the International Criminal Court demanded effective investigation of crimes committed in August 2008. As the "GHN" reported, the Coalition declared about a number of violations of human rights and international human rights norms in its statement.
"In particular, during the war there had been revealed signs of ethnic cleansing against ethnic Georgians living in conflict regions. Also there had taken place the premeditated murders of civilian population, disappearing of persons, mass destruction of real property, forced eviction, illegal arrests, captures, tortures and inhuman treatment from both sides of the conflict" - said in a statement.
Representatives of the Coalition called on Russia and Georgia to take measures to punish the perpetrators of the crimes of those days.
