NGOs and human rights activists intend to support the arrested Georgian photographers
Rally in support of arrested photographers, who were accused of spying will be held today near the 8th Gldani prison in the Georgian capital. As the "News of Georgia" reported referring to InterpressNews, representatives of Georgian NGOs and human rights activists will participate in the action.
As noted in an interview representative of holding "Alia" Dmitri Tikaradze, the authorities are doing everything to make photographers to conclude the procedural deals with investigators. "In opposite case the trial will not be public, and therefore, neither journalists nor the public will never know what had really happened" - he said.
Recall, on July 7 this year, law enforcement bodies of Georgia detained Zurab Kurtsikidze (representative of the European Photo Agency EPA in Georgia), Irakli Gedenidze (photographer of press service of the presidential administration), his wife Natia Gedenidze - also a photographer, and George Abdaladze (photographer of the Georgian Foreign Ministry, of "Alia Holding" and stringer of Associated Press) are charged with providing all kinds of information to organizations, operating under the cover of security services of a certain country to the detriment of the interests of Georgia using his official position.
The first hearing on this case is scheduled for September 1.
