Minister of Diaspora: we will not leave Javakhk
Diaspora Minister of Armenia Granush Akopian told about development of relations with the Armenian population of Javakhk.
As the NEWS.am reported, Akopian told that her office tries not to interfere in the Armenian-Georgian diplomatic relations and mainly carry out the implementation of humanitarian programs in Javakhk.
"We carry out the program on computerization of schools, visiting of Javakhk by cultural circles, and ensure these cultural circles of Armenian with national attributes. We also help public organizations, publications and television. Javakhk is always in the center of our attention. With regard to educational programs, we also try to involve Armenians in it to help them" - she pointed out.
In addition, Akopian has stressed that all actions of the Ministry relate to the laws of Georgia. "We must respect and protect the Georgian legislation and carry out the Armenian program without violating the laws of Georgia. If there is a problem, appeal to the leadership of Javakhk" - said Minister of Diaspora.
Recall, recently Diaspora of Javakhk Armenians in Russia claimed about the pressure on the Armenian community in the region and demanded to declare its national-cultural autonomy.
In their speech, timed to the visit of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili in Armenia, representatieves of Diaspora said about reprisals against the Armenian activists and made a number of political demands.
In particular: to stop the persecution of the Armenian political activists and to annul the so-called "black lists"; legally register and decide on the status of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church; to return the temples, shrines and monuments Armenian Apostolic Church; to eliminate discrimination on the basis of language and to allow the use of Armenian language for governing bodies of regions of densely populated by Armenians.
The Diaspora demands to stop the political pressure on the region's inhabitants.
"After the 2008 war the tendency to control social and political life in the Armenian region by the power structures of Georgia has increased. Georgia denied entry for a number of public figures solving problems of Javakhk Armenians, various obstacles for the transportation of Armenian literature and press to Javakhk were artificially created. During the 2007-09 period as a result of excitation of spurious criminal cases and legal proceedings in absentia dozens of activists of the Javakhk have left their native land.
Javakheti political activist Chakhalyan was sentenced to 10 years in prison on trumped up charges"- said officials of the diaspora.
