In Tbilisi, the details of compensation to victims of repression announced
In Georgia a press conference, where the details on payment of compensation to victims of repression of Soviet times will be released, is scheduled for today. As reported by the "GHN", on the eve the European Court made a decision that obliges the Georgian authorities to pay such compensation.
As a human rights activist Zakaria Kutsnashvili said, the Georgian authorities were obliged to pay compensation to persons who were persecuted under the Soviet empire. The decision was handed down by the European Court.
"The European Court granted another lawsuit against Georgia. The case concerns compensation to persons who were persecuted during the Soviet empire, and it will be payed by current government of Georgia. The European Court considered that it does not matter, either Mikhail Saakashvili or Stalin was ruling, repressed people should get compensation"- said in an interview the Georgian human rights defender Zakaria Kutsnashvili.
Recall, in 1997 the Georgian Parliament adopted a law under which persons repressed during the Soviet regime were given the appropriate status.
