Ilia II: separatism is a dangerous disease
Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II said that separatism is a disease.
"Separatism is a dangerous disease, and it should be prevented in any case. On the one hand, it's wrong to struggle against separatism in the country, and, on the other, to encourage it in other country. But we live in hope" - "Russian Analyst" reported the words of the Georgian patriarch.
Ilia II has also expressed his confidence that the population of Abkhazia and South Ossetia will sooner or later return to the bosom of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
"I believe that the dismemberment of the country is a big mistake. First and foremost this is dangerous for the Abkhazians themselves, who do not want to be under the bosom of the Georgian canonical church. I think they realize their mistake and they will come back to our bosom" - he said.
Note, during his recent meeting with Patriarch Kirill Ilia II said that the religious ties between Russia and Georgia are much more tighter than policy.
"Politicians are comers and goers but our people and our church remains for times. We have to ensure our relationship" - he said.
He has also thanked Patriarch Kirill for his confirmation of jurisdiction of Georgian Orthodox Church over Abkhazia, as well as for the invitation to the "holy city" - Kiev. "I think we'll meet in the future. This is a good begining, and I think that extension will take place and we'll understand each other and will find ways to overcome the problems" - Ilia II concluded his speech.
