Georgian authorities has announced a competition to design a memorial to the victims of "genocide" of the Circassian people in the middle of XIX century on the part of Russia.
According to VZGLYAD, the representatives of the Georgian Ministry of Diaspora Affairs had informed that the challange will be international and the winner will be awarded $ 10 thousand.
The decision to establish such a memorial was made by the Parliament of Georgia. There will also appear a special Circassian center in Georgia.
As reported by the head of the parliamentary committee on diaspora and the Caucasus Nugzar Tsiklauri, a memorial to the victims of the genocide of Circassians from the Russian Empire will be constructed at the resort of Anaklia near the border with Abkhazia.
"We'll call a place of construction of cultural center after consultations" - said the MP.
Recall, March 20 Georgian parliament had adopted a decision on recognizing genocide of Circassian people by Russia in the XIX century.
"All 95 MPs had voted "for". Representatives of the parliamentary majority had already stated that this decision became recovery of "historical justice".
The document stated the "planned" nature of the Russian massacres and forced resettlement of the Circassians in the XIX century.
Previously, Circassian NGO "Adyghe Hekuzh - Cherkessia" had sent appeal with the same request to the Parliament of Georgia. This statement, signed by the leader of the movement Abubekir Murzakanov, said that genocide of Circassian must be recognized until May 21 - the anniversary of the Caucasian war.
According to this movement, recognition of genocide of Circassian would help to "implement age-old dream of reunification of Circassian people at their historic homeland". "This decision would give a new impetus to an ongoing good-neighborly mutual beneficial relations between Georgians and Circassians, who have a long history of friendship and cooperation" - was stated in this document.
