Azerbaijan appeals to the U.S. to recognize the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh
Azerbaijanian organization USAN appealed to the U.S. Senate with a request to adopt a resolution on the recognition of territorial integrity.
As reported by the APA, adoption by the U.S. Senators of the resolution on Georgia, which named Abkhazian and South Ossetian territories "occupied" by Russia, became reason for this appeal. Representatives of the USAN believe that the U.S. Senate should consider a similar document on Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The Senate should recognize the violation of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and to urge to resolve conflict through peaceful and fair way within international territorial integrity of Azerbaijan recognized by international community" - stated in this appeal.
Recall, the U.S. Senate had passed another resolution related to the 2008 war.
According to one of the authors of the document Lindsey Graham, "Russia's invasion to Georgian territory is act of aggression not only in relation to this country but also to all young democracies."
Georgian authorities have adopted this resolution with enthusiasm. For example, Georgian ambassador to the U.S. Temur Yakobashvili said in an interview with "Rustavi-2" that the resolution was adopted unanimously, and he stressed that "Russia was named aggressor and occupier".
"This resolution is a message to Russia that it should withdraw its troops from Abkhazia and South Ossetia and let international missions to come there" - said the first deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Irakli Kavtaradze.
