New Electoral Code of Georgia will be prepared till the end of August
The country's new electoral code of Georgia will be developed By August 20 and then it will be submitted to the Venice Commission. As reported by the "Georgia-News" it was announced to the journalists on the eve by the head of the Legal Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Pavle Kublashvili after the end of the working group meeting to discuss the results of agreement on the electoral environment achieved by the Georgian government and several opposition parties.
Thus, in the period from August 20 to September 20 legislative changes arising from the Electoral Code, including constitutional, will be developed, said Kublashvili. Under the amendments, the number of deputies in parliament will be increased from 150 to 190.
Increasing the number of deputies in the parliament is the main contentious issue, he said.
"The opposition did not put the issue of increasing number of deputies at any meeting. It was a government initiative and I do not understand why the president calls it a compromise now" - said one of the negotiators, representatives of political association "New Rights" Mamuka Katsitadze.
