Felgenhauer: participants of Karabakh conflict are preparing for war
According to well-known Russian military expert Pavel Felgenhauer, participants of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict are preparing for war. Moreover, both sides are preparing. As reported by the "GHN", expert stated such opinion in an interview to Armenia Today.
"It is impossible to think that one of the sides will quietly wait while other sid is actively preparing for war, thus both sides are being prepared" - said Felgenhauer. However, he stressed that all the players involved in the negotiation process on Karabakh realize this fact and they are doing everything necessary to reduce the heat of situation.
"Both the EU and Russia proceed from the position that everything must be done to rule out a resumption of hostilities. If in the process Russia will deploy its peacekeeping forces in the conflict zone, of course, it would be good for Russia. Russia has always wanted to do this since 1994 "- said the expert.
"Even today we can not speak about any peace treaty, neither of the sides today is ready to make serious and fundamental concessions. And so, today the role of intermediaries is reduced to the deterrence of the sides. The war can easily escalate into a large-scale regional war and it should not be allowed "- said further political scientist.
He can not tell when a war can start, but he has speculated that it will not happen this year.
