Nikolaishvili told about the future plans of his department
On the eve of Georgian Minister for Regional Development and Infrastructure Ramaz Nikolaishvili presented to reporters projects that are carried out by the ministry now and were planned for the future. According to "Business-Georgia, the minister said that the number of people employed by the Ministry will exceed 60 thousand in 2012.
"The priority directions of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure are: construction of an east-west highway; construction and reconstruction of the roads, bridges and tunnels; construction and rehabilitation of a new railway Baku-Tbilisi-Kars; rehabilitation of water supply and irrigation. Over 2009, there were invested 812 million lari in this area and 23 900 people were employed. In 2010, investments rose to 912 million lari. The number of employed reached 31 000. By the end of 2011 the Ministry will place in a job 44 400 people, and the amount of investments will reach 1 billion 386 million lari. By 2012, we are planning implementation of investment of 1 billion 838 million lari, and employment of 62 500 people" - said Nikolaishvili.
According to him, 3 thousand kilometers of roads of 7 thousand kilometers of roads existing in Georgia were reconstructed. In addition, there were built 33 bridges and 78 bridges were rehabilitated. Construction of four tunnels is being carried out.
Nikolaishvili said that the project of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway provides construction of 25 km of railways, as well as rehabilitation of existing 160 km of railways.
Serious work is also underway in the area of water supply. Relevant projects are being carried out in 27 municipalities of Georgia. Also, the work on a complete rehabilitation of water systems in six major cities of Georgia has begun.
