Bagdasarov: the CIS tribunal may judge Saakashvili
The Case on the war crimes of the Georgian leadership can be considered in a tribunal specially created by a number of states of the CIS. This was stated by State Duma Deputy Semen Bagdasarov.
"The International Tribunal in The Hague is pro-Western tribunal, which is very politicized. And, for example, Mr Saakashvili is closely linked with the United States with all its consequences. Therefore, it is possible to appeal to the International Tribunal, but we must understand that it will not cause any real consequences" - as reported by VZGLYAD, Bagdasarov said this commenting on the suggestion of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev about the possible involvement of Mikhail Saakashvili to account for attack on South Ossetia.
"In these circumstances, the question is: if it is reasonable to try to at least create a court-martial of a number of CIS countries". I say "a number of countries" with reservation, because I understand that we are allies today, but tomorrow - only God knows who" - added Bagdasarov.
Earlier, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that the Georgian leader Mikhail Saakashvili should be brought to the international tribunal.
At the same time the Russian president had also said that everything what the president of Sakartvelo did is a flagrant violation of international law.
"But given the fact that international community can hardly rely on the position of Russia, I think that the creation of an international tribunal at the moment is unreal" - said Medvedev, adding that the final court will be historic, and the intermediate court will be held by voters of Georgia.
