Shevardnadze: Saakashvili started the war
Former Georgian president is sure that the war of August 2008 was started by Saakashvili - reported by the Armenian edition News.am
"Russia had no intention to wage a war in Tskhinval because it had not interest in this. Moscow has always wanted to have control over Abkhazia, which was a tasty morsel for Russia and so they, along with Tskhinval, launched a military operation in Abkhazia where Georgian troops didn't come" - said of Shevardnadze.
Shevardnadze trusts Heidi Tagliavini commission's conclusions, who acknowledged that the first shots were started by Georgians.
According to former Georgian President, Saakashvili's main mistake was that he did not consider the possibility of participation of Russian troops in the war and did not evaluate its support.
