Defence of Gamsakhurdia, Jr. intends to challenge the decision of Appeal Court
Lawyer of the son of Georgia's first president Kathy Bekauri told about her intention to appeal decision of the Supreme Court of Georgia on the case of Tsotne Gamsakhurdia at the Court of Appeals. As reported by the "News of Georgia," the defence of Gamsakhurdia, Jr. wants to challenge the decision of the court on conviction him for bribery.
"We are preparing a cassation lawsuit and intend to challenge the appellate court decision on the recognition of Tsotne guilty in bribing the prison officials. The deadline will expire on August 20" - said the lawyer.
"After he was transferred from prison Gldani (Tbilisi) a month ago to the Rustavi penitentiary institution number 17, he was treated normally, doctors of the institution are watching him, and also doctors, who were chosen by his family, come to him. In addition, his telephone conversations with family members were renewed"- she added.
Earlier, the lawyer said that if the Supreme Court did not satisfy their claim, they will appeal to European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
Recall, July 20, the Tbilisi Appeal Court upheld the decision of the City Court, which sentenced Gamsakhurdia for 5 years in prison. Thus, the total term of imprisonment of Gamsakhurdia increased to 13 years and two months, since earlier he was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison for attempted premeditated murder, illegal possession and carrying of firearms.
