Fuchs and Frenkel want to appeal to the Supreme Court of Georgia
According to information released today by Archil Kbilashvili, a lawyer of Israeli businessmen Roni Fuchs and Zeyev Fraenkel, his clients intend to challenge the Tbilisi Court of Appeal decision at the Supreme Court of Georgia. According to Trend referring to a lawyer, businessmen have time untill Aug. 27. And they will avail this right, said the lawyer.
He added that Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili had not responded to the request for a pardon of Fuchs and Frenkel, who still have not acknowledged their guilt. If it will be necessary, the businessmen will appeal to the European courts. However, it can be done only after decision of the Supreme Court of Georgia, said Kbilashvili.
Recall verdict on the case of Ronnie Fuchs and Zeyev Fraenkel was announced on April 1 this year. According to the decision of Tbilisi City Court, Roni Fuchs was sentenced to seven years in prison and Zeyev Frenkel - to six years in prison. In addition, both are to pay the penalty. This decision was adopted pursuant to paragraph 3 of the 339th article of the Criminal Code of Georgia - a bribe to government officials.
Businessmen Ronnie Fuchs and Zeyev Frankel were arrested at one of the elite restaurants of Batumi last October during a meeting with Deputy Finance Minister Avtandil Haraidze. They wanted to give Georgian official a bribe of seven million dollars in exchange for refraining from attempts to challenge the decision of an international tribunal.
