Environmentalists have examined pollution of the rivers of Kura and Araz
The August results of monitoring the level of pollution of transboundary rivers Kur and Araz were announced today by the environmental department of Azerbaijan. As reported by Trend with reference to the National Department of Environmental Monitoring Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Ministry, in comparison with the last ten days of July, during the period water consumption of the Kura River decreased by 31 cubic meter per second - up to 104 cubic meters per second.
Content of biogenic matter at the part of Kura river at the border between Georgia and Armenia exceeded the norm in a few times. Also, the permissible rate of copper and phenol is exceeded.
In particular, the content of phenols exceeded occupational exposure limit at the part "Shikhly 2" by three times, copper connections - twice, in the river Agstafachay - phenols and copper compounds exceeded occupational exposure limit for 300% in the reservoir, at the artificial reservoir "Agstafachay" - phenol exceeded occupational exposure limit twice, copper compounds - three times.
With regard to the Araz River, phenols exceeded the norm for 400% at the part "Horadiz" and copper compounds - 300%; at the site "Shahseven-1" - phenols and copper compounds exceeded OEL for 300%.
