Today is peremptory day for refugees in Tbilisi. 20806.jpegToday, August 15, in the Georgian capital, is the deadline provided by the official authorities of Georgia to refugees from South Ossetia in order that they leave the building of hotel "Abkhazia", the place where they lived for many years. In the case of disobedience the refugees will face with forcible eviction.

Release of the building of the "Institute of Health Resort" is scheduled for August 18. As reminiscent of "Georgia News," at the end of last week in Tbilisi there was held a series of protests against such steps taken by the official authorities of the country.

One of the last actions to stop forced evictions of IDPs from areas densely populated was held on Friday near the parliament building in Tbilisi. It was attended by the refugees themselves as well as by local opposition politicians and human rights defenders.

"Our demand is to stop forced eviction of IDPs. We appeal to all internally displaced persons and all residents of Tbilisi to show more unity and more activity, because otherwise the authorities will take over 350 objects and will evict people from there, and then it will start the eviction of Tbilisi residents, that we have seen earlier" - said in an interview to reporters a representative of the Conservative Party Lasha Chkhartishvili.

Displaced persons from South Ossetia in 1991, staying at the hotel, have received notice from the Ministry of Refugees on August 5 that they should leave the building untill August 15. In case of disobedience the refugees will face with forcible eviction.

"We, the rights defenders, have to support them (IDPs) by actions of solidarity in order to somehow stop the abuse of authorities which aim to ensure that displaced people were displaced several times in their own country. They are treated very cruelly" - in turn, said the leader of public movement "Solidarity to Illegal Detainees" Eka Beselia.

Previously, the Ombudsman of Georgia and the NGO "Georgian Young Lawyers Association" had opposed the eviction of refugees.
