Sakartvelo is preparing a list of its brands
The authorities of Sakartvelo intend to compile a list of Georgian products, which will be patented as a unique Georgian brands by September this year. After that, they will be protected by law at international markets. According to "Business Georgia", now a similar list is being prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, preparing a list of wines that are native Georgian brands.
As the director of "Gruzpatenta" Irakli Gvaladze told in an interview, the ministry is working out this list. He added that this work must be completed by September.
We recall, there was recently recorded a case when a number of Georgian brands were called Armenian products in one of the retailer shop of France. For example, the wine "Saperavi" is sold as an expensive Armenian alcoholic beverage, churchkhela can be found in French stores under the name "Armenian miracle". Even the well-known Georgian khachapuri are sold under the brand name "Khachaturian".
As the head of the Union of Armenian winemakers Avag Harutyunyan comment on this situation, "Saperavi" is just sort of grapes and it is not owned by any state.
In turn, according to Gvaladze, there is the Lisbon Treaty, signed by almost all European countries, which prohibits the falsification of the brands. After the Georgian brands are patented, its list will be sent to the customs offices of all countries.
