Lawyer: Verdict on the case of Bitsadze can be announced on Wednesday
As suggested by Levan Samushia, who is a lawyer of former head of Border Police of Georgia Badri Bitsadze, a sentence to his client may be announced in absentia as early as next Wednesday. It was reported by "Georgia-News".
"The process of interrogation of witnesses by the defense is finished. Unfortunately, the judge did not consider our request for interrogation of Nona Gaprindashvili and said that the interrogation of witnesses is completed. Gaprindashvili's testimony would have been very important, because she was the chairman of the "National Assembly" - told Samushia in an interview. During today's process the prosecutor performed conclusion speech and he demanded to recognize Bitsadze guilty, added the lawyer.
"The next process is scheduled for August 17th, when we'll hear a final speech of defense. Therefore, I do not rule out the judge will announce the sentence the same day" - said Samushia. He also expressed outrage that the Bitsadze's case is being considered at an accelerated regime. "I believe that the cases of such volume should not be considered during one or two days" - said the lawyer.
Recall, the former head of the Georgian Border Police and the spouse of the leader of the opposition party "Democratic Movement - United Georgia" Nino Burjanadze, Badri Bitsadze was accused of illegal actions during the rallies of "National Assembly". The rallies were held in Tbilisi during five days untill the dispersal of it on the night of May 26. Bitsadze can be sentenced to a term of four to seven years of imprisonment.
