Expert: The Cossacks may protect South Ossetia
Political analyst and professor of South Ossetian State University Elbrus Sattsaev said that the proposal of President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity on the provision of land in the country for representatives of the Cossacks can prevent the transformation of the country into mono-ethnic state.
"The Cossacks can quickly adapt to the current South Ossetian conditions. They have extensive experience of managing. They can become an example for people who have put his arms, who are passive. And besides, the Cossacks could exercise protection: South Ossetia needs protection because Georgia does not sign an agreement on nonuse of force" - "Echo of the Caucasus" quoted the expert's words.
Sattsaev also noted that the issue of possible relocation of the Cossacks should not be raised during the election period. "The issue of relocation of the Cossacks should not be raised before the election. There will the new government and the new leader. He can be in a different way to treat this issue. I believe we should wait. All applications must be weighed and considered" - he said.
Recall, during a meeting with members of the International Youth Forum "Iryston-2011", South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity said about the possibility of provision land allotments to the Cossacks for developing the republic's economy and strengthening its defense.
