Georgia has returned "Khvanchkara"
According to the head of the Georgian "Sakpatent" Irakli Gvaladze, Georgia managed to regain ownership of the trademark of popular wine "Khvanchkara", which at one time was given to "Dozortsev and Sons" by the U.S. Patent Office. However, as reported by the "GHN", this was preceded by a series of trials of the U.S. Patent Office with "Dozortsev & Son".
However, after arguments of the Georgian side agreement between Georgia and "Dozortsev & Son" was reached. On this basis the company has returned trademark to Sakartvelo without payment of the sum to the Georgian side.
In addition, according to this agreement, "Dozortsev and Sons" will be eligible only for the distribution of "Khvanchkara", and only from those manufacturers which produce this wine in Georgia.
Recall, the problem with "Khvanchkara" appeared after Georgia launched a registration process of 18 names of their wines in the U.S. It turned out that "Khvanchkara" in 2005 has already been patented by "Dozortsev & Son", and, accordingly, Georgia could not register this drink in the U.S.
