The World Bank has noted the success of Azerbaijan in the fight against corruption
The World Bank (WB) experts noted positive results in implementing the strategy and plan for improving governance and combating corruption, including at the territory of Azerbaijan. As recalled by the agency Trend, the plan was approved in 2007. The results of this plan were analyzed in a special report by WB and posted on the official site of WB.
"Progress in supporting reforms in public financial management has been uneven. Standardization of evaluation and operational support to public financial management systems was improved, but as for service delivery, it was not given sufficient attention. Increased participation and improved coordination with private sector initiatives had increased confidence in the reforms in Azerbaijan and Moldova" - says the report. Bank support is focused mainly on the Supreme Audit Institutions and bodies to combat corruption, the document continues.
In particular, in Azerbaijan, the Bank has supported the establishment of the State Oil Fund, as well as respecting the principles of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
In the period from November 2006 to January 2007, World Bank experts carried out consultations on the strategic document "Revitalization of the World Bank for improving governance and fighting corruption". As a result of the consultations, "Plan of Implementation of measures aimed at the revitalization of the World Bank in improving governance and fighting corruption" was developed.
