Yerevan has recognized the new government of Libya
According to information released today by Press Secretary of Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan, the official Yerevan has recognized temporary transitional national council of Libya.
"A note of the Armenian Foreign Ministry about temporary transitional national council dated August 31 has already been sent through the Libyan embassy in Paris" - a statement of Balayan quoted by Trend.
As recalled by Armenian mass media, mass demonstrations demanding the withdrawal regime of Muammar Gaddafi, ruling Libya for over 40 years, began in mid-February. Later, these incidents were escalated into armed confrontation between government forces and rebels.
February 27, rebels formed a transitional national council, which was named the sole legitimate authority in the country. About 45 countries, including the U.S., have recognized TNC as the legitimate representative of the people of Libya.
March 17, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution to impose no-fly zone over Libya. The operation of the coalition forces in Libya was started March 19. June 1 NATO has extended the operation till the end of September.
August 22, rebels with the support of NATO occupied the bulk of the Libyan capital Tripoli and the National Council proclaimed the final victory over the former regime. September 1, TNC was recognized by Russia as an official government of Libya.
