The EU and Azerbaijan will discuss a common airspace
An agreement on the Common airspace is currently being discussed by representatives of the European Commission and Azerbaijan. This was reported by agency Trend, citing an article published in the edition of the European Union - Europolitics.
"The strategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia makes Azerbaijan a candidate for the signing of an agreement on the Common airspace with the EU. In January 2011, Azerbaijan has expressed interest in negotiating on an agreement with the EU in the field of aviation" - is stated in this article.
They explained that this agreement will open markets, equal competition conditions, as well as general rules in the areas of aviation security, air traffic control, social conditions and environmental protection.
The authors of this material believe that the passenger traffic between the EU and Azerbaijan may be attractive to European airlines. This is due to a high proportion of business-contacts related to the oil and gas industry of the country.
It is worth recalling that at the moment Azerbaijan has an agreement on air services with 21 EU member state.
The European Commission argued that even now the demand for air services between the EU and Azerbaijan is exceeding the supply. In the near future, this dynamic will continue.
