Head of the Committee "Katyn-2" has asked political asylum in Sakartvelo
The Georgian authorities have received a request for political asylum. According to agency Trend referring to the Georgian broadcasting company Pik.tv, such a request was received from the Russian opposition activist Andrei Derevyankin. According to TV workers, 52-year-old Derevyankin asked the administration of the president of Georgia for asylum.
In broadcast of TV-company, Derevyankin stated that he had chosen this country because he does not seek for comfort and well-being and intends to make every efforts for "fight a common enemy".
It is worth mentioning that Derevyankin is chairman of the committee "Katyn-2". This committee is carrying out independent investigation into the crash of the plane of President of Poland over Smolensk. In addition, the opposition leader is one those who condemns Russia's military operation in South Ossetia in 2008.
In the past, Derevianko has thrice become a political prisoner on charges of anti-Soviet propaganda, callings to incite an armed overthrow of the government and the establishment of illegal armed groups.
